Minix NEO U1 is one of the first and few Mini PC with Android and quad-core Amlogic S905 chipset. It will be available from next week at a price of 130 Euros.
Minix Neo U1 specs include Amlogic S905 (Cortex-53) with Mali-450 GPU that has quad cores, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal eMMC 5.0 (MLC) storage. In short, a platform with an edge over competitors with the same CPU that are usually equipped with 1GB and 8GB of NAND flash storage. The Chinese company has finally developed a high-end device.
Minix Neo U1 is magnanimous in the ports and connectivity department too, packing three USB ports (on the right side), Kensington Lock, audio jack, microSD card slot, a micro USB port HDMI 2.0 (HDCP 2.2) to support 4K video @ 60Hz, compared with 4K video @ 30Hz as supported by the Neo-X8 H Plus android TV. You also get Wi-Fi 802.11ac dual-band 2×2 MIMO for more power and signal stability, Bluetooth 4.1 and Gigabit Ethernet.
The operating system is Android 5.1 lollipop with the classic MINIX Launcher and a streamlined user interface to improve browsing through the settings menu. So basically, Minix NEO U1 will be the successor of NEO-X8 H Plus with a new platform and some changes in the user interface department.
