rogers-android

Are you a Canadian resident and had an eye on the HTC dream or HTC Magic, ever since it was launched in some other parts of the world? If your answer is yes, then its time for you to rejoice!

Because, Rogers Wireless has announced the launch of both the Android powered devices currently in the market, to flock the Canadian market on the 2nd of June.

John Boynton, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Wireless said, “Who else but Rogers would be the first carrier to offer Canadians the first chance to join the mobile revolution with a choice of not one, but two, handsets powered by the Android platform? The HTC Magic offers a responsive touch screen and the HTC Dream delivers both a touch screen and a slide out QWERTY keyboard. Both devices offer outstanding wireless internet search capabilities and a full suite of applications that run two times faster on Canada’s fastest mobile network.”

We do not have much details as of now. But, the launch date of HTC Dream will definitely be 2nd June. HTC Magic will either be launched on the same date or some time later in the month of June.

Motorola to enter the Android Market?

Today, we have another rumor about an Android device hitting the market, some time later this year. This time, the tip-off comes from none other than Motorola.

The mobile phone giant has given indications that it plans to become “friends” with Android this year. And, it seems, the device will be launched in 4th quarter of this year.

Now, would you like to know the possible specs ? The specs are almost the same as the other Android devices in the market, and the ones “rumored” to be released. But there are two specs, which will be a surprise for you. First, the usual specs : an all touchscreen device, 3.5mm jack,  GPS, long battery life (I don’t know if this should go under the unusual specs, as every company claims to provide this). And, now the unusual specs : a 3.7″ screen(there is no information about the resolution) and a 8MP camera. There is no news regarding if the device will have a flash.

The specs of this device seems to be quite impressive. And, Motorola would be able to conquer quite a large portion of the Android market, if it is really able to provide the above mentioned features.

Pdair leather case : the safest way to carry your T-Mobile G1

A couple of days back, I laid my hands on the leather case for my T-Mobile G1. It has got the perfect openings.

Here’s a picture of my phone lying inside the leather case :

The following image shows how the device looks from the front, while safely fitted inside the case. And also notice, how conveniently you can access the call answer and reject buttons, the back button, the home button and the menu button :

In my honest opinion, investing in a good case, like this one from pdair, is a must for any individual who really loves his gadget and wants to protect it. Since the day I have safely preserved my phone in the case, I never felt the need to take it out, for any functionality.

I would say, its worth the investment as it’s of great quality and great value.

HP to join Android netbook bandwagon?

We have got news of HEWLETT-PACKARD Co. (aka HP), “studying” the Google Android OS and the market, probably to be used in their netbooks.

Marlene Somsak, spokeswoman for Palo Alto, California-based HP, was heard saying “We are interested in understanding all the various operating system (OS) choices in the marketplace that could be used by our competitors. With respect to Google Android, we’re studying the OS in general and looking at its computing and communications capabilities.”

However, Hewlett-Packard refused to comment on any Android product in the making.

We can definitely see a surge in the growth of netbooks sale in the past couple of years. This growth has mainly been due to the low pricing of the devices, as compared to the notebooks, and also its compact size.

If Goldman Sachs Group Inc.’s report is to be believed, the sales of netbooks is expected to double this year, whereas, the notebooks industry is expected to grow by just 1.2%.

Everyday, we are experiencing something new happening in the Android market. Till date, the PC, notebook and the netbook OS market was dominated by companies like Windows, Apple and Linux. But, the rate of growth of the Android market forces me to believe that this market is going to be dominated by Android very soon. The main reason for this would be the fact that Android comes for free. So, this would reduce the prices of the devices to a large extent. Also, it is an open source initiative. So, this gives the developer a larger horizon to explore.
